ibis budget London Barking
8/10 Good
"Basic room with a nice ensuite. Did what it said on the tin. Staff helpful and pleasant.
Only quibble was that I didn't seem to be able to get a VAT invoice for meals (just a credit card printout)."

"Do not stay in room 65, around 4am heard couple of men tried to open the ceiling window, I managed to get of them running on the roof, I showed the footage to security but they "

"I would strongly advise solo travellers, particularly women travelling alone, to avoid this hotel.
I booked what was advertised as a hotel room, but upon arrival I was unexpectedly placed in a separate house down the street from the main hotel building. This was not made clear at the time of booking. I was also required to pay a £100 deposit, which had not been clearly disclosed in advance.
Late in the evening, a group of men staying in the house began congregating outside my room, knocking on my door, shouting, and laughing. Their behaviour became increasingly intimidating and I felt genuinely frightened for my safety.
I called reception twice to report that I felt unsafe. The response was slow and dismissive, and I became so concerned that I was close to calling the police. When I asked for an escort back to the main hotel because I was too frightened to walk alone at nearly midnight, this request was refused.
When I returned to reception to hand in my key and request a refund, the receptionist was rude and confrontational. Instead of showing any concern, he asked, “What’s your problem?”, dismissed my account, implied that I was lying, and refused to provide a refund.
As I no longer felt safe staying there, I had no choice but to leave immediately and book alternative accommodation at an additional cost of around £300.
My experience was extremely distressing and entirely unacceptable"

"Super venue very clean, redone hotel, very friendly stuff, great food, super rooms fresh and clean, bathroom was very clean and tidy, overall great stay."

Best Western Greater London Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"The best staff I’ve encountered in a long time. The rooms are small but very clean. No air conditioning. The only problem I had was I’m the hotel policy wouldn’t take a major credit/debit card because it required a signature (not sure why as I use my PIN any other time abd it wouldn’t pull up that way in their hotel payment machine)."

"Great value for the price. Would stay again. 24hr bar area with comfy seating. Didn't try the wifi but it's free. The heating/cooling system is a little strange. According to a note on the wall of the room, it stays at 20 degress Celsius when you turn it on. So if it's warmer than 20 in the room, it cools it down and if it's lower than 20 in the room, it warms it up, in theory. Couldn't really tell. Ended up keeping it off for most of my stay. Bed was comfy, breakfast was fantastic. Cost about 13 quid but was full breakfast, including scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, pancakes, croissants, muffins, toast, baked beans, all kinds of cheeses, yoghurt, ham, salami, a variety of juices, coffee, tea, mushrooms, you name it. There is parking within the complex but you need to set your departure time at the machine yourself. Note that if you are leaving at the noon checkout time, you might want to set your departure time at the machine to 1pm just in case. You get penalized if you parking for any more than 15 mins longer than the departure time you entered in the machine so be careful with that and set it for later. I think it's the same price for up to 24hrs of parking anyway. The staff were super helpful, very courteous and accommodating. Definitely A+ stay. It's about a 10 min walk to Barking station, where you can connect to central London via c2c, District Line or Hammersmith & City line. There are a few restaurants less than 10 mins walk too. Ghanian one was interesting."

"Not what it was, needs a good clean and spruce up. No choice at Breakfast "

Cranbrook Hotel
4/10 Poor
"Was disappointed to find out long after booking that a "security deposit" was required. Had to comb through the listing because it's so well hidden - these things need to be way more prominent. Staff were friendly but a stupid policy of having to "hand write" my details on check-in was just annoying. Was rudely awoken by noisy people in the hallways at 1.30am then kept awake by metallic crashes and clangs from outside like trolleys or cages being moved around. Room was clean and had a nice shower/bathroom but the twin room I was in was clearly a double that had had an extra single bed put in and moves over, so there was a random plug socket and light switch in the middle of the headboard. All in all, very unimpressed "
