Despite receiving confirmation of our stay following the booking process, we received a message the night before our stay at the Five Suites saying we must pay our tourist tax before arrival - our confirmation clearly stating that this tax should be paid at the property (presumably on arrival). Further, the message said that we would receive instructions on how to pay, which were not forthcoming! I called Expedia that evening to complain and spoke to a young man, but he was unable to get hold of anyone at the property. I confirmed that we were very unhappy with the way the property had treated us, which was exacerbated by the fact that my husband's wallet had been stolen the previous day at Pisa railway station - so we no longer had the credit card we we used to pay for this accommodation. We also gathered from the property's message that access into our room would be remote, whereas we had understood from the confirmation that there would be someone present to take the Tourist Tax. With the tone of their message we decided we had no option but to find alternative accommodation, so I will be asking my credit card company not to pay the accommodation cost (for a 2 night stay at this property). We were extremely distressed at the time, and very disappointed with Expedia, so I doubt we will use your services again.
