"This place was great for the most part. It’s definitely a bit on the older side of things, but with that comes a particular charm. The room was amazing. Spacious, with its own gorgeous Onsen. No real air condition controls other that an analog “low, mid, high” toggle. The beds were very firm, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. The included kaiseki meals were spectacular. If you’re looking for a bread, eggs, bacon type breakfast this is not a place for you. If you want to experience the traditional Japanese meals, I couldn’t have been more pleased. In addition, there is a fantastic room service menu after 4pm. The common areas are well maintained. The public onsens are pristine. Location is amazing. The service was impeccable, as one expects from Japan. Everyone was kind, helpful, and respectful. The biggest issue I had was the smell of the hallway outside our room (3rd floor). It had a constant smell of food. It was a little overwhelming, but did not carry into the room. All in all, we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for People looking for a traditional Hakone Onsen experience. I do believe the hotel could highly benefit from a remodel. It has the potential of being absolutely spectacular."

"Room was lovely and clean and the outdoor tub made a for a lovely addition. Staff very friendly, but maybe not the quickest at reception and the bar areas. Teppanyaki dinner however was superb."

"This property is absolutely beautiful. It is just as I remember it 35 years ago. The museum was fascinating, showing what a wonderful restoration was done while strengthening the building. I am so glad I returned."

"The stay was very good. We had a private bath in our room and it was very nice. The private onsen left a bit to be desired. We were unable to utilize the public onsen due to tattoos. The location near the ropeway and ship were amazing. The buffet was above average. Would stay again."
