"This was a superb stay due to a family feel and exceptional, caring staff. Everything was lovely, except the fact that we were in the old part of the hotel which is not very suited to extreme heat in the summer. Fans were provided but to little avail., it was roasting, even with door open at night. The room itsel was old fashioned but spacious and nice, good beds, good shower, lovely breakfast in the morning. Hotel is a short walk from everywhere, lots of food options in the vicinity. "We stayed in one of the cottages which although a bit dated offer a lot of space and character. The room itself was spotless and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Loftsome bridge although off a main road for convenience is lovely and quite due to it being a good distant back from it, so you get the best of both worlds a good nights sleep and connectivity to all the local attractions with York not being too far away. "The setting is beautiful and the staff amazing. We took our 2 Spaniels with us and stayed in a dog friendly suite. Room was huge and surprisingly warm considering it was a converted Castle. Breakfast in the morning was decent and you are within 25 mins of York. All in all a great trip and we will 100% stay here again. "

Just a few minor points to note & could be improved - bedroom window could not be opened to let in fresh air & badly needed dusting. Not enough electrical sockets & could have been better positioned close to mirror for make up, hair etc. Other than that, it was a beautiful atmospheric and classy hotel and full of character. "

"Tried this hotel for the first time. This charming and comfortable hotel, sensitively evolved from a historic town house into a modern hotel with period atmosphere. Was well worth the visit. The hotel has accessible rooms which complied with our specific requirements. Well designed rooms with regulation fixtures and fittings but with an old world feel.
