"We stayed at Thatcher’s Hotel (part of Surya Hotels) for three nights during half term. Overall, it’s an average hotel but offers good value for money. The rooms have been renovated and are modern and comfortable, and the beds were very comfortable which we appreciated. However, there were a few downsides. "Apart from reception, this pub is staffed entirely by untrained junior staff that want to leave you in no doubt that they don't want to be there. Room was not very clean, breakfast a poor show, and the decor beyond tired. Would have given it three stars though just simply because my evening meal was pleasant and the place is fantastic value for money - until I made the mistake of using the property's electric car chargers - DO NOT USE THEM! £25 for two hours and my charge rose 3%. "I loved this place. When I go to England, I enjoy these smaller, transformed hotels much more than bigger ones and Hand and Spear has been the best. The room I got was spacious with ample wardrobe space and beautiful decor. The bath was insane with a beautiful claw foot tub. I’m very self-sufficient when I travel so I don’t expect a room made up each day but I’m sure they would accommodate you and they quickly brought extra towels when I asked. "This was by far one of the best inn rooms I have slept in for years. The bed was big and comfortable with a great mattress topper, two big wide windows for air. There was both a bath and a shower and both were clean. Tv and great coffee machine with plenty of milk and sugar with milk alternatives if needed.
