"We loved this hotel, and had a great 4 day stay in Kyoto. Very upscale and peaceful, in a quiet, non-touristy neighbourhood, with lots of convenient travel options. And we ended up in nearby underground jazz bar Zac Baran twice, as well as a tiny local restaurant about 15 minutes walk west, same side of street as hotel, called kawahigashi (it also says 'food and beverage' in English outside). "The rooms are spacious by Japanese standards. The beds are very comfortable and the shower is excellent. The TV is equipped with Netflix and other streaming services and easy to use. The location is superb for exploring Gion and Higashiyama, and not far from a metro station to get to the rest of town. The free shuttle service to and from Kyoto Station is a nice bonus. "Rakuro is in the kind of special location where we would choose to live if we lived in Kyoto. Its concept and setting made us genuinely happy. Being close to the Gyoen National Park and surrounded by many artisanal spots showed us that we had chosen the perfect area. It’s a very calm place, away from tourist crowds.
