The best Ryokan experience. The room is spacious, staffs are very friendly and try their best to make the guest feel like back home. The onsen is good, only tried the public one, but is good enough. The dinner is the highlight, the best we ever had. Beef, handmade soba etc... and the after dinner concert is a surprise. Really enjoy the stay , wish can stay longer
They had 4 outdoor, rooftop private Onsens and 2 indoor public Onsens. We spent two nights and used the private Onsens four times. Absolutely fabulous. The rooms were traditional Japanese style Ryokens and it was something I would recommend for everyone visiting to give a try. The hotel was exceptionally clean.
Excellent small Ryokan with choice of Onsen facilities. Great service and very good food. Only drawback is that location is a long way from Matsumato Castle, the station and other tourist spots. No problem if you have a car but taxis are few and far between.
Love the private onsen, the design of the room, the staff’s service. But the location of the place is real bad because it does not have shuttle service and the public bus’s timing is also bad because of its Low frequency.
This was our "ryokan experience" on our recent trip around Japan, and what an experience! Kota and his staff were incredibly gracious and accommodating. The rooms are understandably spartan, but that's the point. The washoku meals were fabulous. We are not breakfast eaters, but we couldn't help but make an exception here. The same goes for the President's soba. Both the public and private onsens are well maintained and a welcome respite after days of travel or walking the streets of Matsumoto. Of the four hotels we stayed in around Japan, this is the one we will definitely be returning to!

Great for family and couple travelling in Matsumot
Good onsen hotel in Matsumoto. But will likely need to access by car or taxi from Matsumoto.
We had a large Japanese style corner room with open-air bath. The bath had windows that opened, so you could soak whilst looking out over the city to the mountains. I just wish we'd had more time to enjoy it, (we were only there overnight).
The staff were expecting us and we were given a wheatgrass drink and cake whilst checking in.
The room was large and the futons comfy. Giving us washbags with complementary towels was a nice touch, as was providing hot water in a thermos for us to make tea.
The hotel provided a vegetarian meal for me and my younger son, (and gave us a cash refund as what we ate was less than the 'half board' kaiseki). They were able to cater for my older son's peanut/nut allergies. Breakfast was spectacular, (a vegetarian Japanese breakfast was provided for me and my younger son.
We booked an eve session in one of the rooftop onsens at no extra cost.
There is a lovely gift shop in the lobby.
The hotel is easy to find by using the no.32 bus at stop no.1 outside Matsumoto station. Get a map from the hekpful staff in tourist information, (in the station) and ask them to mark the hotel on the map.
Don't expect to do anything outside the hotel in the evening. It's in a residential area - the hotel IS the destination.
I would go back to Matsumoto just to stay in this hotel - it was that good. I have stayed in some pretty nice hotels, at various places around the world, and this was up there with the bes for me. It is just a really lovely place.
