The noise insulation from the rooms above is non-existent; from footfall noise to voices. The remote for my TV did not work. The street noise was also loud but then that was to be expected. Otherwise, the room was clean and functional.

I wasn’t sure if I would like this hotel or not. In the end, I thought it was okay. I knew there was no front desk person, and I honestly didn’t know if it would matter to me. In the end I think I did miss it. I had also seen in reviews that there is street noise, which was definitely true for my room (#1, on the 9th St side). I visited during a cold snap, so no one was out when I arrived late at night on Weds, and so there was no noise. I slept like a baby! Thursday there were a few people out partying, but the noise died down around 10-11pm and I slept fine. Friday night there was a ton of honking, yelling, loud cars that earplugs were no match for, and I didn’t sleep well. I thought the mattress was really comfortable, though my bed was quite noisy from squeaky springs. The room was nice enough and generally clean, though there were signs that it was not brand new: scuffs on the wall, some unfinished trim around the door, etc. Best parts of staying here were the location, the kitchen, and the gorgeous exposed brick in my room. It’s probably worth the extra money to request a room on the non-street side of the building, so I would recommend factoring that extra cost into your budget.

Extremely humble quarters in a vibrant location. So vibrant that the street noise was practically unbearable. The second floor windows on 1st avenue did little to attenuate the racket. (It didn't help that they were doing nighttime paving of a nearby street.) Clearly no one from management has every tried to stay in one of these rooms. Some issues included: The bathroom reeked of bleach and cleaning fumes. The shower curtain didn't reach the floor so every shower resulted in a puddle on the floor. The faucet opened into the wall tile which was crumbling due to the constant friction. The pillows were comically thick. I purchased my own at a nearby Target for a few dollars just to get by. There were so few dishes and cutlery items as to make the dishwasher pointless; you'd have to hand wash after every meal. On the plus side, it was easy to get into the building via codes and the building felt reasonably secure.

We enjoyed the EVH. A bit of drama on our last night when the fire alarm went off at 11 pm. We hurriedly got out of bed, got dressed and headed outside. Three fire trucks arrived in short order and quickly figured out someone down the hall from us had burned their dinner. We were back in our room by 11:15, so no big deal. But we never heard from the hotel staff, which seemed odd.

I really liked this sweet little spot. My room was super cute and well appointed. The hotel is in a busier area and does leave ear plugs to help block out some of the street noise and sleep better.

Clean room and great location. Nice kitchenette even though we only used the fridge.Couple of negatives: toilet seat did not fit the toilet. That's an easy and cheap fix so kinda puzzling. The bathroom sink was clogged and the shower setup could be upgraded. But overall a nice spot. It's noisy at night as was noted in some reviews but it's NYC so expected
