"El Colonial made for a genuinely enjoyable stay, and a lot of that comes down to the people. The staff were some of the friendliest and most helpful I’ve encountered — they made us feel truly welcome from the moment we arrived. A huge highlight is the free drinks available 24 hours a day, which is an incredible perk and honestly hard to beat. The location is unbeatable. Old San Juan is right at your fingertips — everything we wanted to see or do was only 2 to 6 minutes away, which made exploring so effortless. The beds were genuinely comfortable, and I slept well on that front. However, I do have to be honest about a few things: the rooms could use a deeper clean — the floors and light switches showed noticeable dirt, which took away from the experience. Light sleepers should also be aware that street noise carries through the windows and can be disruptive overnight. One thing management should really address is the air freshener in the lobby. It was overwhelmingly strong — my allergies flared up every single time I walked through. Turning it down or moving it to a less concentrated spot would make a big difference for guests with sensitivities. Overall, a great spot for location, vibe, and value — just a few operational tweaks away from being truly excellent."
