We rented the penthouse (Del Sol) in the ‘offseason’ (July) for a 4 night stay. First, the views from our suite were INCREDIBLE and the way the room was decorated made the stay feel warm and welcoming. The bonus was our own hot tub on the large balcony. The property has 5 pools and the grounds are well taken care of and we had some tasty a fish tacos at the downstairs restaurant. Now the downsides… housekeeping stopped by once during our stay and after that we didn’t request it again. They only changed the towels and didn’t even bother making the bed. It was odd and seemed bare minimum. The coffee from the espresso bar tasted awful and we ended up buying instant coffee to make our own in the room. While the hotel is very peaceful, it’s not super close to other places and the cobblestone roads leading up to the hotel are rough- so plan to uber unless you like a challenging trek every day. Overall it was an okay stay but for the price we paid, I expected a bit more amenities, better service and a more updated ambience.

This review gives me mixed feelings because I think the property is amazing. We had the “cave” room and it’s stunning. Open air villa, three floors, massive and very well decorated. The resort is well kept, lots of greenery and water features, wildlife etc. There’s one little restaurant and bar connected to the pool, but you’re 10-15 walking to the main area downtown. We really enjoyed everything but on our last night, someone or something opened our bedroom door and slammed it shut around midnight. We were terrified and couldn’t sleep. The hotel closes at 9 pm and opens at 8 am, and it’s a bit remote. We stayed awake until the hotel opened and we left immediately. We were informed there are no cameras on that side of the resort and the whole situation left us feeling unsafe. Luckily nothing was taken and we weren’t harmed, just scared.

I would definitely come back. It is close to a lot of great restaurants, shops, and of course, the beach. It's a quick uber ride to the more touristy part of PV if that's what you're looking for, but we LOVED Zona Romantica. The staff was kind, accommodating, and the resort is so stunning that I didn't mind staying in and being cozy on the rainy days. We made a lot of meals in the kitchen, which was a big plus. Also, the spa was wonderful!

We loved our room, the lovely pool and the staff was very helpful! Easy to take uber to/from or for walkers you can take a 10 min hilly walk to the beach and town along a busy road.

Incredible property -- unique, charming, modern, clean. Surprisingly good location despite being up a hill (use the secret staircase at the bottom to walk into town).

Rooms are large and have plenty of seating/relaxing area with great views from the balcony. Kitchen is has all items needed for cooking. Washer/dryer in unit. Location is 5-10 min walk downhill (with lower entry gate on the main road) to town and beach area. Uphill return walk takes longer.

The cave room is seriously something special. I don’t know the story but it must have been someone’s home years and years ago. You can tell they put a lot of thought and intention (and money!) into building this unique space. It’s the perfect little oasis nestled into the mountain. Sure the finishes are older and you're basically sleeping outside (lol) but once you’re used to the sounds at night, I always felt safe and slept like a baby! The water features are so special and the view is spectacular. I had a million Snapchat messages of friends agreeing how cool the room was!! The bed and pillows were perfectly comfortable. There’s Netflix on the smart TV! There’s two seriously huge mini split ACs. It was 85 and sunny but we never needed to use them. The room service was excellent. We ordered the oxtail rissoto and popcorn chicken. The staff was so helpful. We communicated by text on WhatsApp to order food and arrange cleaning service - so convenient and always quick to respond! It was also really nice having a washer and dryer. The only very very minor thing was that the water took a minute to get hot but the shower felt great and had space for all my things. We loved our morning walk into town - 15 minutes down and cab up for about 80 pesos, well worth it! I was so sad to leave this beautiful place. I will 100% be staying here again. It must have been a difficult decision for the original owner to sell the property. I wish it was mine!!

The Marcela is a gem, it’s a beautiful place to spend several days enjoying PV. Easy walk to town to enjoy the hustle and bustle and then escape back to the super friendly staff, delicious food and drinks and great pool. The rooms themselves are beautiful decorated with traditionally Mexican decor, clean and comfortable. The pull out couch wasn’t very comfortable but that is our only complaint, the Marcela was a wonderful place to spend 10 days with our family. We would definitely stay again.

What a great stay. Place is charming and beautiful. Views of the city and the ocean - doesn't get any better. Great relaxing pools. Food was great at their restaurant and all the staff were wonderful and so friendly. Can't wait to return.

Very chill resort. Loved hanging at the main pool which was very clean and comfortably warm. Beautiful grounds and views. Staff was very friendly. Liked that it was within easy walking distance of all PV’s romantic zone offers but far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle. Would come back in a heartbeat.

The view was amazing! Everyone we met was so nice and accommodating. The pool and bar area were lovely and the meals we had at the restaurant were good! There are a lot of stairs so be ready for that but Ubers we’re always available.

My wife and I prepaid for an 8 night stay at Marcela and left after 2 nights to move to a different hotel and different part of town. Positives: friendly staff, large room more like an apartment than a hotel room, outstanding views of the city (we booked the top floor suite), reasonable kitchen. Negatives: Way too many steps to get down to the beach and food shopping, you must be in very good shape and willing to climb - we found it too inconvenient as I had a sore back, laundry worked but made loud noises and sounded like it was on its last legs, shower drain did not clear so water was a few inches deep by end of shower, communication with staff only through WhatsApp not ideal, noisy environment around the hotel while we were there, hotel pool excessively crowded. Overall nice large room and a great view, but because of location and lack of amenities we decided to go somewhere else
