"Simply amazing little place - staff was excellent. They have a nice heated pool and hot tub. When my wife and i were in there they cam out and started a fire for us to warm up after getting out - it was 56 degrees . Food was excellent When we checked out the front desk gave us the choice of different candy bars to help out on the trip home. They had home made cookies all the time with hot water, coffee, tea, and decaf in the front lobby. We had a excellent view of the ocean from our room and only 5 minutes from Hearst Castle.
Amazing 3 day get away place."
"Spacious lobby. Exceptionally clean. LOVED the free wine/beer happy hour M-W. That was an unexpected surprise. Would definitely stay here again. Very comfortable bed."
"We spent one night in Cambria on our leisurely trip up the coast from San Diego. We have never stayed in Cambria before, and were intrigued by the thought of staying in one of the various beach-side inns along the ocean. The Fogcatcher inn had a nice, clean, well-appointed suite for the 3 of us to stay. The decor was lovely and beach-inspired, with everything we needed to enjoy a restful stay. No need for the inroom coffee maker, since they serve fresh brewed coffee in the lobby every morning.
After checking in, my husband and I crossed the street to follow the wooden walkway along the cliff above the ocean. The views were stunning, and there were stairs to take us down to the beach for a view of the tidepools. We opted for a partial ocean view king suite for this trip, but I would happily go for a full ocean view suite (upstairs from ours, I suspect) if we ever pass this way again.
The only caveat is that in that location (beachside inns are above the ocean, but below a small hill) there is no cell phone service. Emergency calls only. No doubt the room phone would be able to handle any calls you might want to make."
"We loved the rusty feeling of a lodge but still with modern amenities and clean rooms and bathrooms. The staff was friendly, and accomodating. The place itself was a nice location central to alot of places, like the beach, the forest, and famous sites. It was quiet at night, too. The music in the restaurant wa also great."
"We stayed for multiple days and had two different rooms. We stayed in the patio room for two nights, and due to availability, had to switch to the fireplace room for our final night. This was a slight hassle, especially since the front desk initially made it seem as though we might be able to remain in the same room. It was also frustrating that we were expected to vacate the first room before the next room was available, which would have left us without a room during the transition.
The patio room was far better than the fireplace room. The fireplace room was located directly above the lobby, so we could hear the automatic entrance door opening and closing throughout the day as guests came and went. The room also appeared to have an area of the bathroom wall that had not been properly repaired after prior damage, with exposed hardware and paint missing from the wall. It almost seemed as though this room was assigned as a last resort. Additionally, both beds were not as comfortable as expected, possibly due to the mattresses simply being older, especially for a resort-style stay where pillow-top or more comfortable mattresses are typically expected.
Although the rooms were equivalent in price, they did not feel equivalent in comfort or overall welcome factor.
That said, the grounds were very nice, relaxing, and enjoyable to walk around. The property had a peaceful, unique new-age feel, while still making us feel like we were somewhere in Italy. The artwork, rocks, fossils,"
