Kilbirnie Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Excellent stay with my dog, beautifully clean rooms and amazing staff! Shout out to Lisa on the desk who made the stay perfect! Look forward to returning!"

County Arms
8/10 Good
"Staff are fabulous - cannot do enough to help you. Breakfast decent, evening menu needs a bit of an update - it used to be much more expansive - I appreciate things have changed since Covid, but probably needs a refresher. Rooms definitely in need of a facelift - damaged desk/dressing table not very impressive."

The Cornwall Hotel Spa & Estate

"Generally it was a nice stay, we loved the balcony and size of them room. There were gluten free options available for my partner which was great as she has celiac disease. I must say that it does seem understaffed, we had a staff member come into our room to deliver room service and she seemed very stressed. People are human, people get stressed. However, it is not something I want to worry about while at a hotel and spa. When my partner and I first approached the spa front desk, the staff were not very inviting. They appeared inconvenienced to speak us through the spa, pool, etc. This put us off going for spa treatments which is what we were planning to do on one of our days at the hotel. The women’s changing rooms before entering the pool were dirty. There were hair, bits of grub and dirt I could feel on my feet while walking through the place were not pleasant. The pool looks bigger in photographs, so something to bear in mind. It is relatively small. My partner and I paid for some room service, 1 cheese board and a ham sandwich. This came to almost 30 pounds. The cheeseboard had 4 crackers and 3 bits of cheese on, while the ham sandwich looked like two pieces of cheap white bread, and half a handful of ham. I was very excited for this trip away for my partners birthday but I don’t think it will be worth the visit to come again, which is unfortunate because I really wanted to enjoy our first small holiday together. Reception staff were great."

The Alverton

Camelot Castle Hotel

"Beautiful hotels with clean rooms & the bartenders and servers were all wonderful, but the Polish guy at the front was useless. We needed a taxi, & he just gave us cards to call. We couldn’t call from our American phones, so he allowed us to use the front desk phone. Any other place would arrange that for you, not “I don’t know. Here are some cards. Good luck.” Your guests are foreign. A hotel doesn’t just abandon the guests with “Good luck”. Only garbage hotels do that. This was a very nice hotel with beautiful scenery. The front desk doesn’t open until 8:30 am, but we had to leave at 7 am… so we ended up opening the doors ourselves, & because we cannot lock from the outside, we had to leave the doors open to get out of the lobby to our taxi to make our flight. Because you cannot get an Uber or taxi, you have to plan ahead. This is something that needs to be shared. In order to dial out, you have to use 011 (if you’re USA) 44 (country code for the U.K.) and then the British phone number WITHOUT the first 0 at the beginning of the area code (many just give the number without the 0. Area code is four numbers, I think). I had to figure this out from Google. How sad! A sign with these instructions would help your future guests? Bodwin has no public transport. The 21 year old bartender let us use his phone, too. He was great. The servers in the dining room were fantastic. The lady bartender at night was amazing. Other than the service, it was a very nice experience."

OYO Newquay Beach Hotel
4/10 Poor
"The room was unclean and very dirty. Food on the floor, smears on the kettle, and a stained duvet cover and hair on the sheets. They changed my room and the second room was serviced better, but was still dirty. Upholstery is stained, carpets are stained and not recently vacuumed. But since the sheets and towels were clean I stayed one night. It was the same with the hallway and staircases - heavily stained stained and unvacuumed carpets in the stairwells. Stained surfaces on wallpaper, kettles, etc."
