"Good deal, but property under renovation. Inside the room was fine and had been redone, although there was a bid of dampness smell coming from the old AC unit. Outside there were dumpsters right outside our units and the sidewalks were crumbling. I assume most of this will be rectified with the completion of the renovation. Overall, there are not a lot of options in the Hyde Park area and this was affordable; plus it was a nice walk to both the downtown Hyde Park area and the lake trail/Promontory Point via the pedestrian overpass."

"This hotel was very nice and clean, however it did not offering any parking or breakfast. So you have to figure on extra cost for parking and breakfast. The room was very small, the 2 beds were half beds and were probably 10-12 inches away from each other and the walls. There was no microwave and the refrigerator was tiny! Not even dorm size."

"Just before our stay we got a message from Dubois Chicago saying that they would not send the code to enter the property unless we sent them a security deposit almost twice as large as the room charge. They also said it couldn't be put on our credit card but had to be sent via Zelle or Venmo directly from a bank account. I messaged them and said I was not comfortable doing that and that I would only pay through my credit card. They again said they could only accept Zelle or Venmo. That's a good way to lose your money, so I contacted Hotels.com, through whom we booked the stay, and asked for the stay to be canceled. They agreed, but it took 45 minutes on the phone--while I was on vacation. They also declined to compensate me in any way despite the fact my family and I now had nowhere to stay in Chicago on a Friday night. Family members found reports of this happening before. So why does Hotels.com continue to do business with Dubois Chicago?"

"Staff was friendly, water pressure was good, and breakfast was pleasant. That said....the air conditioning in the room wasn't working properly. It was set for 65 when we got there. We bumped it up to 68. That said...the thermostat showed that it was actually 80 for most of the night. Did not sleep well as a result."

"We showed up after a 15 hour drive with a sign saying that all third party bookings are invalid. We talked to the clerk and he said we didn’t have a reservation without even asking for our name. I explained that I talked to staff that morning asking for a ground floor room due to recent surgery. He gave us a key and asked for us to check it out. There was garbage still on tables, the bed had no sheets or pillows. The bathroom had no towels and the toilet paper was wet. Being 10 at night and tires from drive, also unfamiliar with Chicago we had to sleep there for the night. We left promptly at 7 the next morning and lost a nights stay there because of the conditions. Another couple was given the same choice. Their toilet was full of feces and no working ac unit. There is no way I would recommend this place to anyone. I have never had a more horrible experience in customer service, conditions than this visit"
