"What a magical little place this is! Absolutely loved the cabin and all the unique decor and trinkets and the location is breathtaking…so peaceful. The couples hot tub was perfect and nice to relax in after coming back from lovely walks. Well done to the owners of the Sweet Donside Cabins. We’d love to come back."

Top Strathdon Hotel Reviews

Macdonald Aviemore Hotel
2/10 Terrible
"“Booked this hotel expecting a high-quality stay based on the price and facilities advertised, but unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. We paid £144 for one night and the hotel felt very run down, dated, and in need of major refurbishment. The room and overall property did not feel worth the money at all. We specifically chose this hotel because of the leisure centre, gym, sauna and spa facilities, but even those were underwhelming and disappointing compared to what we expected from a hotel in this price range. There are far more modern hotels nearby for cheaper prices that offer a much better overall experience. The staff were genuinely lovely, friendly and helpful throughout our stay, which was the only real positive. You could tell they were doing their best. However, great staff alone cannot make up for how tired and neglected the hotel feels overall. For the price paid, I expected comfort, quality and a more modern environment. Instead, it felt old-fashioned, worn out and overpriced. Sadly, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it unless the hotel undergoes significant improvements and refurbishment.”"

Coylumbridge Resort Hotel
2/10 Terrible
"On a week end break, my wife and I, who had enjoyed a stay at the hotel in 2012, were most disappointed. The building and furnishings were tired, the bed uncomfortable, and the room had seen better days. The seats in the longe area were worn, sometimes stained too. There were too few staff available at the reception desks, with at times long queues of guests waiting to check in. We had chosen the half board option, but were also not impressed by that. Some of the dishes at the dinner consisted of cheap frozen food, sometimes it took a while for the staff to replenish what had run out. On our first dinner, the white fish was very well cooked, but not so on the second. The deserts were not appealing at all. At breakfast, the milk ran out one morning and in general the food presented was not very appetising. Additionally, we were advised via a page of notes handed out on arrival that room service would not take place (as it only happened, once, if you stayed five or more days). Overall, we left very unimpressed and do not intend to return. This hotel was supposed to be four stars. What we experienced fell way below that."

Craiglynne Hotel
8/10 Good
"Arriving hot and thirsty at 16.00 on a Wednesday I was very disappointed to learn, after 5 minutes looking for a member of staff, that we couldn't order a drink to enjoy the beautiful front garden in the sun. 17.00 was opening time. Still, we could wait. Eventually it opened at 17.10. The bed in the room was very comfortable but the room was a little stuffy. I forgot to mention to the front desk that we had no TV controller in the room. We ate in the hotel. The food was delicious but much more expensive than I would have expected to pay, not great value for money but tasty enough not to complain. My wife and I ordered our choices and then waited. It was clear that if we wanted wine then I should go to the bar and order it myself, which was a shame as a bus load of people had arrived and the card machine wasn't working well. Eventually I returned to the table with the drinks to find out mains had been served. In the morning the shower was an issue. My wife couldn't get the shower hot enough but when I went 20 minutes later, I couldn't turn the temperature low enough without it scalding. In the end I gave up. The breakfast buffet was just fine, though a cheerful welcome would have been better than the deep sigh we got on prompt arrival at our time slot."

High Range Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Brillant for a relaxed stop over! We got some good rest!"

The Grant Arms Hotel
8/10 Good
"The staff were amazing! They went above and beyond to make us feel at home at every step. Facilities were a little less "family friendly" than a more modern hotel but we still really enjoyed our time with our toddler!"

Tor Na Coille Hotel & Restaurant
8/10 Good
"Kitchen closes early. We were unfortunately subjected to 2 fire alarms and were forced to evacuate both times in the early morning hours. While I appreciate the apologies there was no offer of compensation."

The Speyside Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"If you're looking for a non-chain accommodation and a local experience, I highly recommend this hotel. The hotel is suitable for those looking for a good base point to travel around the area. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Extensive whisky selection at the bar and fairly priced. Would come back again to explore more of the area."

Balmoral Arms
10/10 Excellent
"This was a beautiful, cosy place to stay. Staff were super friendly and the lobby, guest areas and pub and restaurant were beautiful and welcoming. I would definitely stay again!"

Macdonald Aviemore Highland Hotel
6/10 Okay
"Our check in staff were quite rude, though the young man who checked us out was very nice. We had booked two rooms and one was pretty good, the other had a broken shower and housekeeping failed to leave any amenities. When the desk was called, no one answered. The property is within walking distance to town and hiking in the Cairngorms, which was really nice. Our first morning of breakfast was disappointing as they didn’t have several items ready, but the second morning was good. Overall, very inconsistent."
