"Check in went smoothly and the GM was very kind, even offering us home baked cookies right from the oven. Getting to our room required two flights of stairs which we were fine with but be aware that there was no elevator. The room was nice, cooled with a window unit which was a little loud but we got used to it. The tv used Roku but we were unable to stream the local news because the WiFi was so bad. It was also bad when doing anything on our telephones. Breakfast was served from 8-10 am and we arrived around 8:30. Breakfast consisted of bread for toasting, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage patty, biscuits and a milk gravy and a fruit bowl. The waffle iron was out of order. Juices, coffee, water and tea bags for beverages. It was all self serve and adequate but the staff were not quick to refill or refresh the food and I heard two people have to ask for more biscuits. Check out was uneventful as we were told to just return room keys into a small tray if no one was at the desk which we did."
"We had an amazing stay that exceeded expectations! House and room were immaculate. We enjoyed walking the property and sitting on the expansive porches.
Bobbie was an excellent host, cooked a delicious breakfast and gave us a great personalized tour.
We look forward to returning to this beautiful estate on our next visit."
"Under new ownership, though this was my first time visiting. It shows signs of change, with no outdoor sign on the building and some remodeling of the common areas.
Location was central to everything including the river. The room was great as far as comfort and space and the price was very reasonable. The towels were not all clean or uniform enough and the furniture was a bit dated. Couldn’t use the very nice pool area during my stay due to rain, but breakfast was well attended and plentiful. Staff was doing an excellent job of being accommodating, even when there could have been more hands to help."
"The staff were wonderful. Breakfast was lovely. Love the room, tho it seemed like it hadn’t been used in a while. The jacuzzi tub didn’t work but worked as a regular tub, nonetheless. Parking was not good.
The reason for not having 5 stars is parking. Only 2 parking spots to be used on the street. The driveway on the property only has room for 2 cars. The place has 4 guest rooms. We had to park behind someone, but was asked several times to move & let them out. Or we had to keep checking to see if one of the 2 spots was vacant on the street.
When booking I thought parking was available. I think that was not made clear.
Overall, I would & plan to book again.
Thanks Deauveraux Shields House"
