The room was not clean when we entered. There were dead bugs in the tub and some unknown substance near the sink. The white towels had brown / red stains. We asked for a change of the towels and those also had brown / red stains. Hotel is pretty old - paint is flaking off everywhere. No slippers in the room (had to ask for it). No tooth brush / tooth paste. Calls to conceirge were not answered. In terms of staff, I expected them to move my bags into my room given I'd dropped off my bags with them prior to my check in and then went outside for lunch / to explore the city. Spa wise - pretty well equipped with 2 saunas, 1 steam room, 1 salt room and 1 ice room.

Gorgeous building, room and well maintained gardens, however for a 5* hotel the service was poor, the staff seemed less than enthusiastic towards guests and there was no feeling of warmth or welcome from them. Possibly because they where so few in number. The hotel seriously lacks enough staff to provide much of a service. They hardly provide you with any extras in the room with only 2 coffee pods provided each day with nothing other than coffee top ups provided beyond the first day. The spa area was fantastic, 10 years ago but now its very worn and showing its age.I couldnt believe that for this level of hotel how dirty and unclean it was. Brown tide marks around the pool, black mould on the shower heads in the thermal area and the ice room smelt mouldy and was covered in black mould especially around the tube where the ice came out, the shower head and the cubicle. All the fancy showers in the thermal area didnt work as they should or didnt work at all. Most of the thermal pool jets didnt work apart from the odd few, tiles were missing, dirty windows and unclean floors. This hotel whilst lovely needs to seriously look at the service it is providing especially to guests who stay beyond a couple of days and invest maintenance and a deep clean of its spa area. Sadly this was far from a five star experience.

Tired hotel in need of some TLC. Tired room, no net curtain so everyone walking past could see straight in ... Bathroom extremely tired and dated. Not many staff but those that were around were helpful. Breakfast not worth the cost... Under 15 mins walk to town. The location, free parking and spa are good .. although spa again is tired. Impossible to get treatment so book this ahead if you can.

We visit annually McDonalds Spa in Bath for a 3-4 day stay for the past 5 years and has always been amazing. This time was very different, my daughter went for a shower at 10 pm but there was no hot water, no phone in the room, so used mobile to call reception, tried 3 times no answer. Hot water was fixed next day. Both twin beds needed to be remade due to the insert being only a single in a double cover and was all on one side that was tucked under the bed, again tried to call reception no answer. Housekeeping was lacking due bed issue and non replacement of tea & sugar and not taking away dirty dishes of general wiping done of areas. There seemed less staff and spa staff are contracted rather than employed by the hotel. Spa experience was no as special as usual. My daughter had reaction on her skin after advising that she has sensitive skin, but uses the Rose Elemis products these were not used.

I was able to stay here for 2 nights. Situated near the heart of Bath, the buildings and grounds strike quite the majestic impression. Parking is relatively close to the reception area which provided a grand entrance. I was politely checked in to a decent sized room which was well decorated and included a fridge. The bathroom was especially impressive with a very good shower and bath. I also took advantage of the gym set up. It was well equipped with enough cardio machines as well as work stations, cables, benches and a good dumbell rack enough to allow for a comprehensive resistance training workout. The king sized bed allowed for a tremendous and well-needed sleep. The only blot on this accommodation landscape was the breakfast experience. The first morning was especially disappointing. I went for the full cooked breakfast. The ingredients did not seem of a good quality with some items overcooked and the bread quite stale. The worst was the apple juice which was diluted beyond recognition. The second morning I played it safe with a sandwich with natural yoghurt fruit and orange juice which was a lot better. If the breakfast was worked on then I would be quite confident in giving it a full 5 star rating.

The level of cleanliness was unfortunately really poor. The toilets (in room and in the communal areas) had not been cleaned properly, there was mould in the bathroom and hair on the bedroom floor. The ‘spa facilities’ are also not well maintained. Disappointing for what the hotel is marketing.

The bathroom had no heating. The bed creaked. There were very points so charging phones etc was a challenge. Also no room service because it was new year's eve!

Got to reception at 3:15pm was told can’t check in until 3:30pm. Sat down and at 3:25pm there was a touch of queueing people who had obviously all been told the same thing. Waited 20mins in the queue to finally check in. We booked this hotel for the spa experience. The outdoor heated pool and one of the sauna were both out of order. All the other facilities in the spa were extremely busy because everyone checked in at the same time. Spent 20mons in the spa before giving up.

First time staying at this hotel after 10years and it’s a huge decline from back then. No longer a 5star hotel more a 3.5/4star. The front desk staff (Rory L’estrange) was terrible - lacking any customer service skills or warmth. Breakfast was slow and limited options, quality again a huge decline.

An amazing hotel from start to finish. The staff cant be more friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and fresh looking with robes and slippers provided. A bottle of water is also provided on arrival alongside biscuits, teas and coffees. Lovely cooked breakfast in the morning. Bath main town is a short walk away (15 / 20 mins) but be aware that there is a steep hill returning back to the hotel if walking that might be a challege for those less mobile. Would highly recommend a stay here.
