It is gracious and lovely, with a strong sense of history, but also brings the amenities that you'd want in an upscale hotel: a lovely restaurant and edgy cocktails, and a full, interesting menu. Above all, the people who work here are the icing on the cake: they are down-home in all the best ways and completely unpretentious; they are helpful and friendly and bring a strong sense of pride and ownership to their work. I just love El Capitan!"

"Bad breakfast, non-working phones, very high deposit, shortage of keys, the staff was not friendly (not unfriendly), ice machine out of service, slippery bathroom floor, no hair dryer, slippery shower, poor placement of towels, no water cups in the room."

"Our stay was nice, however five minutes into my shower the water just completely shut off. My daughter called the front desk and the gentleman said wait fifteen minutes and turn the water back on. Since I had soap on my face, I was able to wash my face in the sink. I tried the shower ten minutes later and all hot water was restored!"

"This restore gem from the 20’s was extremely comfortable. Concrete floors, very thick doors and a beautifully restored lobby were just a few of the amenities that made our stay enjoyable. The food in the pub and the grill made it easy for these road warriors tired of our drive. We would definitely return to the Settles if our travels bring us near Big Spring again. F.S."
