This stay was the perfect place for our first night on Kyoto. A blend of authentic and tradition, with a helpful staff as well. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this traditional ryokan. We opted for the tatami mats which were extremely comfortable and provided an authentic experience. All of the staff were so helpful and attentive, the Japanese breakfast was delicious, and we really enjoyed the selection of drinks at the in-house bar. If you stay here, I’d recommend taking advantage of the activities offered by the hotel - we took part in a traditional tea ceremony and loved it! The lady who ran this was so lovely and made this experience one of the highlights of our trip. The location was also fantastic; we were within walking distance of so many great shops, restaurants and things to do. If I had one tiny gripe, it would be that the air conditioning unit in the room was a bit noisy and might bother you if you’re a light sleeper. That being said, this is vastly outweighed by the many other pros to staying here. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a traditional stay in a lovely part of Kyoto!

This place was fantastic. Looks beautiful inside and out. Super clean, lovely, friendly, helpful staff. Make sure to book a slot in the baths and try some sake in the bar!

Lovely ryokan

Wonderful stay in Gion neighborhood of Kyoto. Staff was helpful and international, so they spoke a range of languages. The room was fairly large and sleeping on the futons were very comfortable. Great deal for the price!

They really take pride in what they do! 5-stars!

The staff is stellar!! They go out of their way to make things so easy for you. After 26 hours travel time and a sick partner, they went out of their way to help me. And I’m confident this is how they treat everyone all the time. I couldn’t say enough nice things about the staff! So friendly, helpful and very fluent in English! The room was immaculately clean, and the comforter was so warm and high quality! I was incredibly impressed and hope to stay with you again!

Laura makes this ryokan a must!! She was so helpful in helping to find our luggage and shipping out luggage to the next hotel via the black cat service. The Japanese breakfast is delicious. I loved the traditional Japanese rooms with tatami mats.

Staff was polite, friendly and very helpful. Area is relatively quiet, even during the day and the streets were clean. The ryokan room we stayed was lovely and neat, love the vibes and tatami. Overall, it was a really pleasant and memorable experience. 10/10 would recommend.

I would definitely recommend this place for a first time stay at a Ryokan in Kyoto! The location, staff, and rooms were great! Various language friendly as well :) Only thing is for me its a one time try as I realized not having a TV, regular beds, other room amenities, etc. Is just not for me. That being said, I really did enjoy my stay and I'm sure anyone else who comes here would too.

Overpriced for what it is. Felt like I was camping - small room, had to set up our beds, uncomfortable. Had to reserve a time slot for the onsen (private session) for 500yen for 40 minutes. Very tiny bathtub and room. Amenities available in the lobby (toothbrush etc) and free tea and water for guests. They stored our luggage while we explored which was nice, no fee. A bit of a walk to get to the subway station! Overall felt like a tourist trap. Staff spoke fluent English.

I wanyed the experience of saying in a Ryokan style room but with the comforts of a hotel, this place was perfect. Our room was spacious and perfectly decorated, it even had a small balcony too. The futon beds were so comfortable, I'd highly recommended them, themost comfortable beds we had all holiday! The staff were so helpful and friendly. We used the private bath which was lovely and relaxing, and only a small fee. We even had our washing done by staff for only £5. My only negative was that there was no restaurant and that unfortunately they were unable to do activities advertised on their website due to covid restrictions.

Our stay at this ryokan was enjoyable yet lacking. First off, the included breakfast was, as we were told upon arrival, not actually included and was 13 000 yen per person and only available upon reservation with very restrictive time slots. The reason we were given for not providing the included breakfast (which was a major reason I booked here) was that “nobody uses Expedia anymore so we haven’t changed it” even though “we have 3 reservations from Expedia every week.” In addition, we were charged for the use of the private bath without being informed it was an extra charge and we were charged for laundry? This “laundry” was just the regular changing of our sheets and towels, which we either had to fully opt out of for the entire stay or be charged extra for? The reasoning this establishment gave for everything was strange. Also, the room was quite nicked up and dark. The staff did their best within the weird parameters around everything and the room was comfortable, but I would not return. I would not recommend you stay here.

My stay here was amazing definitely my favorite place I stayed at while I was exploring Japan for 2 weeks. The rooms were gorgeous with the tatami mats and traditional decor. The whole staff was incredibly kind and accommodating special shoutout to Sana for helping me find fun things to do around the city and for making my bed lol. Even when I accidentally missed the breakfast that I scheduled and showed up 3 hours late they were all very nice and still gave me excellent food and service sorry if I stressed y’all out! I had an amazing time the staff made me feel very welcome and at home and I highly recommend staying here if you have the chance!
