We love Portsmouth--so walkable, such interesting galleries and restaurants and more. And we always stay at the Hotel Portsmouth. Great location, free parking, great rooms, great breakfast. This time we paid a little extra for the upgrade to a Superior King and felt it was well worth it. Even though we're just two people, the extra room--and two separate seating areas--mattered a lot.

This is a great boutique hotel. It has character for sure. It’s in a great location. It was quiet and well kept. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic. The staff who set that up cared about presentation and variety. Overall, it was a great stay. There were a few little things that kept this from being a 5/5. The room was mostly clean. But there was trash left behind from a previous visitor under the bureau (including a used bandaid). And though the water pressure was good, the temperature never got hot!

Beautiful, historic hotel in the heart of Portsmouth with the most wonderful staff! Our room was very well decorated, mattress was very comfortable and noise level low. We enjoyed playing pool in the bar area. Breakfast was delicious and more than we expected. The entire experience took us back to Europe. Thank you!

Lovely Americana style. Breakfast was enjoyable, and we spent time playing checkers in the evening. Never did partake of the lounge in the bottom floor but it looked enticing. Very convenient to many restaurants and we walked everywhere,

Breakfast was very nice. Parking was great. The property itself is quite impressive and great location. The room we had got high ratings but was rather dark and dreary for our taste. All good though. Downtown Portsmouth was great area to stay.

The hotel was amazing. Loved the original bldg. was left alone..so historical. Cozy well kept rooms. Walls a bit thin but wouldnt stop me from going back. The bar/pool room was a great added addition. Breakfast was also offered with bagels, toasts, fresh fruit cups, oatmeal/cereals,cured meats & cheeses, as well as oj and coffee. Great location..we walked everywhere! Always felt safe absolutely no issues at all

We had two major issues with our stay here. Our daughter is a junior at UNH, so we have stayed in multiple hotels in the area over the past few years while visiting her. We will never return to this property again. The hotel did not properly plow their parking lot which significantly reduced the size of their lot, and we were asked to park on the street (metered parking) over night. Also, the hotel allows dogs, and we had a guest with a dog stay in the room above us that barked and ran around all night, which led to not much sleep our second night there. The property manager did credit us one of our two room nights to make up for the bad experience. All in all, this property does not meet the level of quality both in property management, (only one person on property) nor in its amenities to meet the value of what they are charging for a room night. There are many other properties in the neighborhood with much better value in relation to the cost. I’d shop around and only book here if room inventory is at a minimum in the area, understanding the high cost of a room night here does not match the low value you will receive in return.

The staff were wonderful but we were put in a room behind the front desk and it was incredibly loud both at night and in the morning. There was also a steady dripping noise (sounded like a plumbing issue) that kept us both awake most of night. There were very few people in the hotel and they didn't offer any amenities (waters, etc). We were super excited to stay here and pretty disappointed.

Amazing place! Great ambiance, staff does a great job at being welcoming, wonderful interior decor, well maintained building considering its age (1880s), and great complimentary breakfast! Thoroughly enjoyed my stay :)
