"We got there and paid and AFTER we paid we were told about the paid parking requirement which was extremely complicated for no reason. And anyone can park there even if they’re not a guest so we had to walk across 2 parking lots just to get in/out. But it’s $36+ tax each night that it showed nowhere on the booking. It’s not even by the riverwalk , it’s a 20+ min walk. Theres not much breakfast options. Our room smelled sour and also AFTER our booking we were told they don’t even do room service unless you’re there for 3 plus days. Both toilet paper holders broke when getting tissue , the toilet didn’t even flush we had to toy with it , and the shower faucet was ghetto it sprayed water everywhere making a big mess. This was our anniversary weekend and having a crappy ghetto hotel ruined it. This was my first and last time staying here. Nobody in the front had any interest in fixing anything complaint wise either. Do yourself a favor and don’t do it."

"The indoor pool was great! Breakfast had a lot of options and was very good. The king suite was a little disappointing - there is no door on the room and then a window that looks into the living room. Not an ideal setup for our toddler. Overall, enjoyed our stay!"

"From the moment we arrived at the check-in desk, our experience at the hotel was disappointing. From not allowing us to pay with my sisters credit card because her name wasn’t on the reservation, to taking a $200 deposit that they said could take 7-10 days to refund, to falsely picturing a brew-style coffee pot in the rooms which we planned for (and the coffee downstairs was awful), the pool water was cloudy on Saturday and the staff said it might be fixed Sunday. Our remote control was taped together with electrical tape and the battery kept falling out. The telephone didn’t have a base to sit on and wobbled all around the nightstand. We paid extra for a river view which was no where close to a river view. We saw a sliver of the river about 1/2 mile away, blocked by buildings and trees. We requested a late check out the night before we were to leave and the man downstairs told us rudely to call for that in the morning. Upon calling in the morning, they said it would cost an additional $25 to have late check out (no thank you). There is an Apple TV small remote box that sits on top of the tv and has a bright green light that shines right into the faces of the people in bed. It can’t be moved or the tv remote doesn’t work. The only two positives from our stay was the bartender and the maintenance worker who helped us with our remote control. Everyone else was very rude and said no way too much (we were not requesting unreasonable things). Needless to say we won’t be back."

"You could tell that the property was not new but they were working at keeping it in good shape. We arrived in the middle of stormy weather and were scheduled to leave in a flash flood situation. The staff allowed us late checkout until it was safe to drive."

"Great, historic hotel! Very cool bar onsite with cool history. Alamo is right next door and the riverwalk is very much within walking distance. La Mengerita has great breakfast tacos/coffee. Will always choose The Menger when in San Anton. "

"Excellent service with very friendly staff! The hotel seemed to be well staffed with at least 2 front desk staff and manager on duty to ensure all guests were helped in a timely manner. They greeted us when returning from our excursions and ensured our stay was comfortable. Downtown streets were blocked to the hotel and staff was able to help guide us in with their knowledge of the area. Room was really spacious with separation between sleeping and relaxing area. Only downside: the toilet / shower room is VERY small and you have to manuever to the other side of the toilet to close the door and if the step out mat is on the floor, the door won't close."
