The property itself is run down but quiet and comfortable if you don’t mind the general state of disrepair. The problem is that the owner seems content with the fact that nothing works. When we checked in, we were informed there was a problem with one of our two rooms - the electronic key card wasn’t working. Their solution? Call the son of the woman working the front desk to BREAK IN THROUGH THE BACK WINDOW. So this poor man shows up with a ladder and proceeds to… break into the wrong room. So then the poor couple in the room next to us is startled to have a man climbing through their bathroom window. Eventually, he gets into our room and unlocks it from the inside. However, then we STILL don’t have a key to the room. The front desk lady suggests we just leave the door propped open when we leave because “it’s a super safe neighborhood.” Bear in mind this is the same person who just asked her son to break in through the back. At no point did anyone think to offer us even a partial refund. To the extend they acknowledged anything was even problematic about the situation, they blamed everything on the owner, who apparently couldn’t be bothered. At one point, the front desk staff told me she might just walk off the job, and I wouldn’t blame her.
I do believe the staff did the best they could, but this place isn’t equipped to provide basic standards of service. You should be able to provide a key with a door that locks, or make up to guests for the inconvenience.
