Surrounding area interesting some good places to go nearby & walmgate. Not very far (10 mins or so) from the Witherspoons near river. Stopped to go to York races good hour walk from there but very nice walk thru centre of York or slightly more direct way. See some interesting places & some nice bars either way"

"Our room was very dated and run down, in desperate need of refurbishment. Shower leaked everywhere, plaster peeling and damp and mould all over. The £120 room only per night was far more than it’s worth. The bar is nice and the food is reasonably for a pub, it’s not a restaurant. Location is good and has parking which is rare for Howarth."

"Beautiful property in a beautiful village. Very large beer garden, large bathroom with a bath (instead of a standard shower). They provided a fan to partially compensate for lack of A/C (during a record breaking heatwave), but wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if ever in South Yorkshire. Easy FREE parking."
