"On first arrival, we were relieved, as the hotle seemed quite nice. However, after we walked down the stairs to our room, we were hit with a strong smell of damp, which unfortunately also smelled quite strongly in the room. We were also at street level with a public pavement right outside, so didn't feel like we could leave the windows open safely."

"The meals were excellent both for quality and price, staff very helpful. The bed was comfortable however the windows did not close entirely. It was quite warm so not a major problem for us but the windows needed refurbishment so they be opened or closed easily. The electric shower was very weak. These issues were relatively minor given the pluses of staff, food and comfortable beds"

There was a half used toilet roll in our bathroom and no fan so it steamed up quite quickly. The room was at the bottom of the beer garden so was very noisy which wasn't that much of a problem. "Look, don't get me wrong, it's not terrible by any means. It's just that for a hotel that's trying to play at this level, it struggles with some of the basics. If you're having a short stay there's no housekeeping by default, (which they don't tell you when you arrive) but there's only a small (non-heated) towel rail, so you're going to have soggy towels on day 2. Yes, there was a (small) sign in reception saying this, but it's the kind of thing it would be good for the receptionist to...

"I rarely leave negative reviews for independent B&Bs, but this stay was extremely disappointing. The room I was allocated was not the room type I had booked. It was advertised as a double room but was actually two single beds pushed together, leaving an uncomfortable gap between them. The room itself had several maintenance issues. There was a bad smell coming from the drain, the TV lost signal for most of our stay, the blind was broken and permanently stuck open, and the ground-floor window...
