"Southland Casino Hotel (West Memphis, Arkansas)
I stayed at Southland Casino Hotel in West Memphis, Arkansas from June 21–22, and overall the hotel amenities were excellent. The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and the casino buffet food was wonderful. I’ve stayed here on three separate occasions, and the service has consistently been great.
During this stay, a major storm caused a power outage. While the weather was beyond the hotel’s control, it was surprising that a large, billion‑dollar casino property did not have a backup generator for the hotel tower, even though the casino floor remained fully powered.
Being on the 18th floor, navigating 18 flights of stairs with luggage was extremely inconvenient. There was no staff present initially to guide guests to the stairwells, and communication didn’t happen until we reached the lower levels near the front desk. For a property of this size and reputation, a clear emergency plan and a backup generator for the hotel rooms should absolutely be in place.
Given the level of inconvenience and safety concerns during the outage, I believe guests should be offered a complimentary night stay when situations like this occur. It would be a fair gesture and a strong reflection of customer care.
Despite the challenges, I would stay again — but next time, I’ll book a room on a lower floor."
