"This is the second time we've stayed at the Mason Freehouse, it was lovely the first time we stayed, which made us keen to return. "If you would like to experience living in a 400 year old cottage, with many original features, surrounded by so much beauty and peacefulness, then this is the place for you!     Pen-y-Ghent makes up one the Yorkshire 3 peaks which, if you accept the challenge have to complete all 3 peaks and 24 miles within 12 hours. Most people start with this one (the smallest of the 3 ) from the nearby village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale. I’ve completed the challenge many years ago in my youth and this time we just tackled this one on a circular 6 mile walk. We took the 3 peaks ascent route which is steep in places and involves a scramble up some rocks near the end but the views (when clear) are stunning. There are lots of walks of varying lengths around the Yorkshire Dales, a definite walkers paradise. Just make sure you are prepared for all weathers, by the time we descended you couldn’t see the summit for cloud.
