It looks impressive from the outside and in the reception area, but it is a bit scruffy when you get in further.
I was allocated room 408 which is listed as “compact double”. It was freezing when I went in, so I went to close the window. Turns out it was broken and couldn’t be closed. The wood frame was rotting. I tried putting a rolled up towel in front of it but knew this wouldn’t make any useful difference.
I went down to reception who came up to the room and looked at it. He said they were fully booked but I was moved to a larger room on the same floor which was slightly better. The bed was awful - could feel the springs through the mattress and it was not comfortable at all. I was hoping to have a relaxing bath, however, the bath was not in a good state, with enamel peeling off and dirt within this.
When I checked out the next day, I went to my car in the secure car park (which is very windy and extremely narrow spaces) to find my car would not start. I called the RAC but due to the low height on the gate the van would not be able to get in. I spoke to the reception staff as I was in a bit of a state and they were a bit shrugged shoulders about it all. I sat in the lobby of the reception for a couple of hours waiting for the RAC and was ignored unless I went to reception to ask them anything.
I normally stay at premier inn but wanted what I thought was going to be more luxurious - I was wrong!
