"A large historic and characterful hotel. The creaky floor boards strongly hint at its age. "Bar was good, albeit with a very limited range of hand pump ales. Also it didn’t have available the bottle of Chardonnay I ordered from the wine list. Breakfast offerings from the buffet and menu were very good. However, the fish chips, and mushy peas I ordered one evening (£18.95 on the menu) were simply awful in every respect including quality and portion size. "The hotel is in a great location and we enjoyed our stay. The only thing that left a mark was the bed, it was quite uncomfortable because it was not a double bed but one that was made up for two out of a single and what seemed to be a sort of pull out bed. That was the only minor thing during what was otherwise a lovely stay!! We did highlight to staff and hopefully they will upgrade the bed. Thank you to the staff who were brilliant !!!"

Their website states that breakfast is made to order and I recall seeing it on the expedia page but then was notified a day before about where to go for food instead. I asked on arrival and they have not served breakfast in 3 years. Inconvenient but not the end of the world. The shower had someone else's soap in it and the body wash was never renewed after use.
