"Breakfast and our evening meal were very good, service pretty quick. Our dog was allowed in all areas if I remember correctly. There was not much parking directly outside and it seemed that visitors for High Force used it so that they didn't have to pay for parking! I believe the receptionist said we could use the paid parking if we gave our Car Reg."

"We stayed overnight and had dinner and breakfast on the morning of departure. Anyone with mobility issues needs to be careful about which room they book, of those in the castle I think that there are a couple on the first floor, accessed by a fairly grand staircase. The rest require a climb up a narrow and steep spiral staircase. The room we stayed was up said spiral staircase and was spacious and clean, well furnished and with a large en-suite. The lady on reception provided a great welcome and helped during our stay, special mention also goes to the lady who gave us and other guests a castle tour. In terms of dining we found a limited menu and an incapacity to vary it in the slightest. Also the staff were less than attentive."

"Unique hotel built in 1422. Lots of history. The owner was extremely helpful, courteous and regaled us with stories about the place. A very homey feeling. Loved it."

"We had a one night stay, dinner in the bar was very good with the added bonus of live music. Breakfast was excellent, the staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The room was well equipped but would benefit from a full length mirror. Would highly recommend and we will be back!"

"Nice hotel with friendly staff Busy pub & restaurant- great breakfast included in the cost of the stay Beautiful village with lots of history Lots of dogs staying & visiting with diners No lift (elevator) but they carried my bags up the stairs for me so that wasn't an issue They give you a key to the outer door so if you're out late (like I was for a wedding in a nearby location), you just hold a key fob to the door & you have 24 hour access They kept my bags free of charge so I could stroll along the river Tyne after checkout & had a couch for me to relax on as I waited for my train - gave me free wifi to upload my trip pictures too Great place to visit"

"Very friendly staff. Lovely location and setting. Some areas of the hotel seemed to be unused/undergoing renovation ( garden and ? Indoor pool area.)Not that this mattered to us but it gives an air of neglect. Our room was perfectly clean and very comfortable. Some public areas need a bit of updating. Breakfast was lovely. Our bar meal was adequate. Staff were very helpful"
