Staff review only. Did not stay at hotel. Daughter unable to check in because she’s 19 and this hotel’s rules are no one under 21. Rules are hidden well while booking. She arrived at 8pm. Hotel staff very unsympathetic to situation, including not offering to hold her suitcases for her while she figures out next steps. We initially decided to drive up and stay the night with her (room can sleep 3). But when they insisted they still wouldn’t let her into room until we got there, and she’d have to wait for us for the 3 hour drive with her luggage, in the lobby or bar until 11pm, we scrambled and eventually found an alternative for her. I completely understand rules are rules, staff can’t break them, but there are times when staff can be human and make at least some effort to help someone who was clearly caught by surprise, regardless of whether we missed the rule. A gesture as small as offering to store her luggage while she waits for us, would have done the trick. Better would have been to let her stay in the room, and if we don’t show up by some time, they force her to leave. Not an easy situation for anyone. Just another example of people following rules as though they’re holy, and not trying to be understanding human beings.
