"The location is ideal for seeing Edinburgh city centre. If you don't want the nightlife noise then stay somewhere else. The view of Edinburgh Castle from our room was perfect though they could have covered the small expanse of roofing to make it more visually appealing. And the windows don't open so ask them to clean them if you want nice photos. The bed is comfortable the room well equipped. It was nice to have a small fridge, kettle etc. more than two coffee cups would be more useful. The breakfast was excellent and staffing at the restaurant in the morning very pleasant and helpful, and attentive. We had dinner one night at the restaurant. My bowl was chipped,the meal was not the standard I expected for the price so it was the only one we had there. Received our meal with no utensils, we had ordered soup and a main. Front staff representatives friendly and approachable. Since there are many uneven stairs I was surprised to see them watch other older patrons struggle to bring luggage up and down them and not offer to assist they watch a group of 12 do just that and the last one was the only one they moved to assist and she was already half way down. Not very amusing while I held the door."

"The mattress on the bed was terrible for me (felt like a really old sprung mattress, with little support). No breakfast on weekdays, which is a pain. Otherwise the room and bathroom were fine. Didn't use the pub downstairs but looked fine."

"The staff were extremely helpful and efficient. The room was spotless huge bathroom comfortable beds. Hotel is in a beautiful conservation village so lovely views we also had a garden room with easy access to lovely garden and seating to chill with a cuppa. Breakfast was excellent. I recommend Open Arms hotel to anyone visiting North Berwick."

"We stayed two nights with another 4 members of my family. Hotel had recently changed hands. It was a lovely quiet country inn in a small village with plenty of parking. Good pulic room for sitting with family and generally the hotel was very individual. Room had everything we needed including a bath with good hanging space.The manager was very hands on and a pleasant man. The lady doing the breakfast couldn't have done more and everything was freshly cooked and brought to the table. Excellent choice of food for breakfast. We didn't eat in the evening as we were visiting family but menu had a good selection. Had a problem with hot water in bath and sink to which the Manager was very attentive in trying to sort. Had a village shop but not much else but that was what we wanted. Lovely overall stay and definitely would return "

Breakfast was better than going to a restaurant- fresh and hot, many choices and we were served in our room in total comfort. Alice most accommodating, very sweet and full of local information. "We were quite surprised not to be greeted by an owner or manager on arrival. It also took some time to check in, as the doorbell was not working and we had to call the number provided that we saw after trying to knock and find something to use the door bell with. Overall, the location was good and the property itself was clean and tidy. However, we didn’t appreciate the roofing works being carried out without prior notice, particularly the loud banging and noise starting at 8am and debris on the path to the pedestrian gate."
