"This is an incredible value in SF. It's an older building in-town so the rooms aren't huge (but perfectly fine, clean and comfortable) and the bathrooms are small. But the place has tons of (good) character, history, and a fantastic gym/locker room (the pool was under maintenance when I was there but it's a great asset). And, terrific spot up top for dinner and wonderful breakfast. Loved this place, what a find, highly recommend. "

"The Chancellor has a charm to it that can only be earned through decades of service to travelers to San Francisco. I stayed here over 20 years ago, and returning recently, she’s definitely still the warm and hospitable hotel that I remember."

"Waited for room and front desk was slow "

"I have stayed at this hotel a half dozen times now, and it is my go to in San Francisco. The location is perfectly central, right next to the Chinatown gate and just between Union Square and the financial district. The immediate neighborhood has walkable conveniences ranging from neighborhood markets to coffee shops and lovely small restaurants - particularly several French cafes and bistros. All is always spotlessly clean, safe, and quiet, and prices are a good value for SF. I recommend...

"Great place with great management! Christine was wonderful and so accommodating! The hotel was a very unique and in a great location. The happy hour every night with free wine, cheese and crackers was the cherry on top. Ailment is a restaurant across the street which had excellent food and drink and was reasonably priced for being in San Francisco. We would definitely go back. "

"Juan, the bartender, was fantastic! He was very friendly and helpful as we asked for drink selections and directions. After going to the baseball game we decided to go back the bar just to see Juan. He made us a yummy nightcap."

"Tried really hard to love this place - fabulous lobby, staircase and lounge. Our room while large lacked natural light - partially due to tree outside but also a window that probably hadn’t been cleaned externally in years. Bar/bistro not open early afternoon and closed at 9 pm. Given that the surrounding area isn’t great to wander round this wasn’t good."

"A few misses here and there, but quickly corrected. Soap and conditioner dispensers were empty and not functioning, blow dryer fell apart. Everything was addressed promptly. "

"The hotel is with a long history but the room is luxurious, spacious and clean! Redwood Room Bar is definitely worth a visit, superb atmosphere!"

"Reasonably good value - you get what you pay for and hotels in California are expensive. A small hotel with just 30 rooms and no other services. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a simple serve yourself. The location was excellent - lots of bars and restaurants nearby, Chinatown and Fisherman's wharf within walking distance."

"The breakfast is to expensive and no one eat because of the price! The parking if you have a car is more than 100$ US per night, this is a shame and really bad"
