"If you book a room with an outside hot tub double check you don’t get the Troutbeck room. The balcony is awful! Firstly, it is overlooked by a loft window above, so limited privacy and able to hear any conversations. On one side of the balcony there is two shipping containers stacked on top of each other, the other side an unkempt wall with a water feature attached. "The location was very nice. The staff were lovely & helpful. The food was very well presented.. very good choice , could of been warmer!. .unfortunately our room No 9...was clean but over the kitchen area. There was a door banging quite often early morning, and up to 10pm or so. Also a constant extractor was noisy too. Our room needed a refresh. Plenty of parking."

"Room was on the roadside so no view and lower than the road so.o0eming the blinds meant people being able to see down into the room. Staff were friendly but their system for checking was odd, just a section at the end of the bar and online check in didn't work.so had to re do all the details. Breakfast system to order gluten free or vegetarian was to order at the bar not in the kitchen and then they brought it to you but you had to go back to the kitchen to get the rest of the meal. "We booked Holbeck Ghyll as a special treat after two days of walking in the Lake District and were genuinely looking forward to it. The reality was a serious disappointment. The room was in a poor state of repair: mould on the bathroom ceiling, rusted window frames, failing grout and sealant with black mould in the tile joints, and paint peeling throughout the bathroom. These are not superficial issues — they represent basic maintenance failures that should not exist in any hotel, let alone one...

"High Ridge is perfectly situated right in the middle of Ambleside. However, it really does need some TLC. There are damp patches on the walls , the bed linen is rather questionable, & the window blinds are just simply dreadful . They let light in, don’t work properly & are very tatty indeed. The furnishings are of poor quality & there are just far too many dreadful pictures on the walls. The kitchen & bathroom are good but the rest of the property needs a jolly good face lift .
