"Hotel is in a great location with the most spectacular views across the bay. It’s comfortable and the interior is well maintained. The exterior and gardens need some love. Food is plentiful and staff were very helpful and friendly."

"Newly built hotel with modern very clean design. Rooms with sea view have a spectacular view. Great location on bus route around Torbay. Breakfast and dinner of good standard. Staff are very efficient, attentive and pleasant. One thing to note is the £15 per day car parking fee."

"The room was clean, the bed very comfortable, the fan provided was barely adequate, (oh for some air conditioning). The receptionist was rather abrupt, & the parking was rather hit & miss. The bar was very comfortable & the staff there pleasant. The restaurant airy & the staff pleasant. Food good. Overall stay was quite pleasant."

"Outside of property very run down. Paint peeling and weeds all over car park and outside spaces. Outdoor pool doesn’t look like it’s been in use for years, filthy water probably built up rain water and rotten leaves in it. Inside hotel old fashioned but kept clean, large room but sealant around bath taps black in several place's. Staff friendly, didn’t use indoor pool so can’t comment on it. "Disappointing stay at this hotel. The staff were a little unwelcoming and the service was not great. A beautiful location but this was let down by terrible parking, poor facilities and attention to detail that wasn’t there!!!! The spa was poor with an outlook to a wall!! The room was also disappointing with hair on my pillow and uncomfortable cheap pillows. I was very much looking forward to this stay but was very disappointed."

"Checked out on arrival as the room had no air conditioning and the temperature of the room was at least 45 degrees, we were offered a fan but this would not have helped. The room was also really small, with an unpleasant smell but it was nicely furnished.Requested another room as apparently some rooms do have a.c. (The hallway leading to the room was a pleasant temperature) we were told they were fully booked (although Trivago showed 3 rooms available when we looked for somewhere else)...

"Don’t stay here if you have a baby. Despite having given the hotel the age of my young baby prior to our arrival, and obviously having a pram when we checked in, the first room we were given was down a narrow flight of stairs which was very difficult to carry a pram up/down safely. We complained and were initially told to leave the pram outside reception. I pointed out that would mean we may have to carry a lot of things up and down the stairs whilst carrying a baby also- not safe. They then...

"The Derwent Hotel itself was good and the hotel receptionist helped a lot when we had an issue with the Spa service. We went for my friend's birthday stayed on the Saturday night, had a great time and booked a surprise treatment for the Sunday morning, when she went down for the treatment it was not on their system and the receptionist was abrupt to my friend and asked if she had the right date, I went and showed all the information ( emails, when I phoned and the money that had been taken from...

"A great hotel with an amazing view right on the South Sands beach . Quite a distance from Salcombe if you are walking and the roads around the area are very narrow ( single track) and steep. We used the ferry to get to Salcombe although it only runs until late afternoon and costs £5.50 each way . The food was good and quite reasonably priced. The decor at the hotel was a little tired . Lots of dogs were in residence and were made very welcome. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Overall...
