"Smashing location - nice accommodation, don't be put off by the somewhat weathered exterior of the building. Clean and comfortable room, OK breakfast, nice evening meal, though note that if you book dinner the drink they offer you is NOT included, which only became clear at checkout! Great location, competitive price, nice grounds. Dog friendly. Pleasant and helpful staff, though a very small team"

"The hostel is cozy, located close to the lake, and within a short drive or a hike from Scafell. The food at the restaurant is fantastic. There is also a kitchen which can be used to cook your own food. The staff are all very friendly."

I was especially grateful to be allowed an early check-in at no extra cost, which made my trip even more relaxing. "Pretty remote so if you’re out driving, make sure you become familiar with the (fairly convenient) bus schedule, although it’s a half mile from the bus stop, or be prepared to pay a healthy taxi/Uber fare from Keswick. The grounds are lovely and rooms/common areas well-maintained. Breakfast doesn’t start until 0745, very inconvenient for an early start. Staff could be a little more helpful in pointing out bus schedule, local attractions, arranging cabs, etc. a nice experience overall."

"Downstairs in the pub and restaurant i cannot fault it, the place is well maintained and clean. The bar is well stocked however it was very busy with only one staff working. Food was excellent and a great variety of choice. Breakfast was limited but the full English was brilliant. Upstairs really needs a refurbishment, the rooms are dated and tired, having said that it was clean and water/ coffee refreshed each morning."

"Amazing location and amazing hotel. We loved our stay however it could do with some refurbishment. It is a dog friendly place so maybe could do with a deep clean in the restaurant area. The food was good but all the dog hair everywhere was a bit unpleasant. However we would still come back."
