"This is about our tenth year to stay at the Helms. It's a well-situated hotel steps away from the BC provincial museum and on the edge of James Bay. Love the inner courtyard. We have always found the staff helpful and I don't think a year has gone by we haven't seen some form of maintenance going on to retain the property's value. The only downside is .... book early! It is that popular. You do not want to wait too long. Rod Link"

"The windows in our room were so dirty that it was hard to see the view. The rug was thread bear and had a hole that had been poorly repaired with the rug pad showing through . The gardens may have been lovely in years gone by but clearly aren’t getting any attention now. For almost $400 Canadian/ night I would expect more attention to detail and care for this beautiful old home. I won’t return"

"Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful in explaining to us how to get to attractions. All staff greeted us in a friendly manner. . The only issue we had was at checkin since our rooms weren’t ready. We checked our bags with some confusion and even though we were told we would receive a message when our rooms were ready, but never did. This being said, we would return in a heartbeat. "Located in Downtown itself, walking distance to the Harbour area, valet parking available but sometimes the front waiting area might be full esp if you are on peak season, clean rooms, kitchen has all the basic amenities, best for families"

"Great location, but very dated. The hotel is quite old and has a slightly musty smell, though it wasn’t a dealbreaker. They seem to just maintain the old facilities rather than update them, so don't expect much. However, the location is excellent."
