"The staff, especially Reception and a young blonde-haired lady who had only been there about 3 weeks were exceptional. Having the bar & the restaurant on the top floor is a bit odd, but it is comfortable. The food in the restaurant was very poor as was the quality of the wine. The gentleman acting as Maitre was brusque, untidy and unwelcoming. We booked our table for 7 and were prompt. But he wanted us to have courses in rapid succession. When we asked for a pause his response was that it was already cooked so we needed to have it then. We were invited to look at the pudding menu at 8.15 and asked if we could please have a little break, bearing in mind that dining didn’t start until 7 pm. He told us if we wanted dessert we would have to order as the kitchen closed at 8.30. We declined pudding. This is supposed to be a 4-star hotel - and everything about it is 4-star. However, I would not give the dining room one star. Sitting in reception in the afternoon waiting for my friend to arrive, who was also staying at the hotel, I heard a lot of people going out to dine and booking Uber. I now know why. There were very few people- perhaps 6-8 dining at the hotel on Thursday evening, which speaks for itself. I felt very unwelcome, rushed and uncomfortable. When meeting friends to dine - it’s lively to chat and linger over each course. We were given an hour and a half to eat all 3 courses. Most of which were inedible anyway. Such a pity. "I came up from Kent to go to a conference at Magna and chose this as a less expensive option hotel for my stay. Staff were friendly and courteous without exception. The room was basic but well maintained and clean. There was tea and coffee but no water and no mini fridge to keep anything cool. I prefer a fridge as I have injections I have to keep chilled. Luckily, my stay wasn’t longer or this would have been an issue. I managed to lock myself out of the bathroom due to a faulty catch, but staff had someone up in a few minutes. The food was pub grub and a little expensive for what it was. I watched the England match in the bar area, sound on both tv’s was faulty. Each tv having a different fault. Otherwise a pleasant stay."

"Charming hotel in tranquil setting but with very easy access to major road networks. We were a bit worried that the hotel might be noisy but even after a large prom event all was very peaceful and quiet by 11.30pm. Staff were very helpful and friendly and our room was very spacious, tastefully appointed and had a very comfy bed. Would definitely return."

"Another great stay, super helpful, friendly staff where nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are pretty good abit worn in places but generally fine,nice comfortable mattress also. Breakfast is also very good and cooked to order. This place is great for a cheap town centre stay with onsite parking for only £5. I would stay here again for sure👍"
