"Parking easy, room very clean and comfortable, lovely reception staff at check in"

"Location was excellent. Very close to Victoria street. Great access to the castle, royal mile and restaurants in Grassmarket. Room was just okay, the floor was so loud you could hear everyone walking by and if your partner went to the restroom. The shower had a small glass half door so water got all over the floor when taking a shower. The pool and sauna was a nice add. The room view I purchased didn’t look like the picture. Had very large windows and the room we had just had one smaller window, you could see the castle just not as pictured in the room we were given. You can’t control the temperature of the room so that was a downside. They provide a small fan but sometimes it got really hot. Didn’t eat at the hotel so no opinions of the options. "

"The mattress on the bed was terrible for me (felt like a really old sprung mattress, with little support). No breakfast on weekdays, which is a pain. Otherwise the room and bathroom were fine. Didn't use the pub downstairs but looked fine."

Breakfast was better than going to a restaurant- fresh and hot, many choices and we were served in our room in total comfort. Alice most accommodating, very sweet and full of local information. "Gorgeous castle close to Edinburgh! So far the main areas are renovated and they are stunning. The aesthetic blends castle feel (gold mirrors, beautiful wooden buttresses, textured wallpaper) with fabulous modern touches (lighting and tiling). We stayed in suite 27 and it had luxurious touches throughout (copper bathtub, double headed shower, new tiling, beautiful new bed) mixed with remnants of the castle feel (tapestry headboard and ancient well (secured) . The bar was classy and had a wide array of wine and full bar on display. The dining room was gorgeous and we had a phenomenal dinner and breakfast. The library is a great spot to read and has a hidden whiskey room. Ask for the castle tour! So glad we stayed here!"

"We were quite surprised not to be greeted by an owner or manager on arrival. It also took some time to check in, as the doorbell was not working and we had to call the number provided that we saw after trying to knock and find something to use the door bell with. Overall, the location was good and the property itself was clean and tidy. However, we didn’t appreciate the roofing works being carried out without prior notice, particularly the loud banging and noise starting at 8am and debris on the path to the pedestrian gate."
