"2rd stay at this hotel. Refused upgrade said not available. Had to argue for a 1 1/2 hour late checkout we did get a one hour late( why not give the extra 1/2 hour we asked for. No free parking mentioned. We never ate at this hotel too expensive. The bar is small and difficult to find a seat except spillover in hall. Bar staff were very nice but to busy to talk and drinks were crazy expensive. The bathroom sink only produced scalding hot water or cold.😡 For a five star we expected better...

"We stayed in the Bootham suite, the room was light and airy and had a lovely small balcony to enjoy the sunshine. The four poster bed was very comfy and there was a small seating area to relax in. Breakfast was very good, everything is a la carte and the staff were very attentive. The hotel is in a great location, very easy walking distance into York but also very quiet and peaceful. The Pantry is a really nice touch but it was a shame that there wasn't a fridge in the room to keep drinks cool....

"Positives - Good location for York; great showers and comfortable bed. Negatives - only breakfast option is continental breakfast served in room, though room facilities to do this minimal. No communal space for a drink etc other than a small unwelcoming area between the front door and the reception hatch, which offered a very small range of self serve drinks. More a place to sleep than a place to stay."

"Only a short walk from the train station, Wheatlands Lodge Hotel was impressive to look at on first view from the street. Well kept garden at front with seating and tables on lawn. Welcomed on arrival, quick check in, offered a local paper guide to York and a complementary hot drink. The bedroom was comfortable and clean but did look a little dated. The ground floor view from the window of a rear outside service area was disappointing as I guessed those on other floors, especially at the front,...

"Michael was very welcoming and helpful, as was George. Eclectic, warm and cozy furnishings, comfy bed, good shower, hearty fresh cooked breakfast. About 1/2 mile from the city center. Lovely, tree lined street with period homes. Not far from a little Sainsbury’s market, short taxi ride from the train station. We look forward to coming again in the future. "

"Breakfast was good. Orange juice was very cheap though - not freshly squeezed. Old part of the building is very impressive. Charging for a small bottle of water in the room is unacceptable. Hotel could do with a gym as well."

"Great location, attentive,responsive staff. There are many local eateries, public houses etc. Even with this the hotel is situated in a quiet area. The breakfast is very good and covers a wide range of tastes. The only point I did not like was that only scrambled eggs were available. We did not use the bar to drink as we were out and about a lot, however it did make ice available when required. "

"The room was very spacious and clean. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was delicious. The only issue I experienced was that the water in the bathroom was too hot and there was no way to make it cooler. Apart from this, everything was good."

"clean room, but the shower was broken to begin with, but fixed after 20 minutes, and loud, drunk guest at 2 am one night, which kept me up for 3 hours, but I did not say anything at the time, with i would not want to deal with such people at 2 am, so can not blame them with just wanting to sleep at the time and did not do anything my self.
