Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

10/10 Excellent
"Great location and so convenient for local restaurants and shops. Parking offside took a minute or two and was really easy. Our room was very large and perfect for my disabled Mum. Breakfast and food in the bar was excellent. It was lovely to sit and relax with such a stunning view. Chantelle made sure our room was always clean and lovely to return to. All the staff were so sweet and nothing was too much trouble. Overall great value, fabulous location, gorgeous views and walkability."

Cumbria Grand Hotel

Cumbria Grand Hotel

8/10 Good
"The hotel is obviously terribly big and once was a very grand place to stay. Very expensive for the owners to keep up to a high standard, especially the gardens as a whole and outbuildings. It is in a lovely position and the trees below it need to be cut so that the view over the sands is visible from the dining room."

"The hotel was comfortable and clean, the staff very friendly & helpful we only had one thing that meant only 4 star rating & that was our lunch, very over priced for what we got, a roast beef sandwich should have thicker meat - please not wafer thin! Still recommend the hotel and would stay there again"

Newby Bridge Hotel

Newby Bridge Hotel

8/10 Good
"I needed somewhere to stay close to a festival venue and Newby Bridge Hotel fitted the brief. The staff on reception desk were helpful and welcoming. The main hotel building shows signs of age and wear and tear in the corridors but the bedroom itself was clean and comfortable. The breakfast experience was a bit hit and miss - even before halfway through service things were running out and not replaced quickly. Staff were obviously working hard but the dining room was busy: there was also debris on the floor and tables not cleared quickly. Food was good and when dishes were replenished there was a good selection of cereals and continental style options as well as cooked items. Parking was a bit of an issue - perhaps the bays could be repainted to help clarify where 'double' rows are and assist with guests parking considerately and ensuring everyone is accommodated. I would however use this hotel again."

Grange Manor

Grange Manor

10/10 Excellent
"First impressions of Grange Manor will be lasting. The whole experience. Was just perfect and a real oasis. The room was luxury at its best with patio door opening to hot tub and garden. High ceilings and the decor fitted the room perfectly. All amenities catered for. The staff were incredible with nothing being too much trouble. Welcome back after each day being away was so warm and genuine. Will most certainly want to travel back again to Grange Manor and especially The Garden Warbler room. Thank you all."

"Hotel, staff and food excellent! The only disappointment was the shower in our room, basically it was a cubicle open shower facing the basin on an angle which allowed water to flood the bathroom floor."
