The Academy Hotel Colorado Springs
6/10 Okay
"The breakfast was very good but the staff made breakfast excellent! I cannot say enough good things about the breakfast staff! There were other things about the stay I did not like. For example, while the hotel is “non smoking,” one day of our stay someone on our floor was smoking pot and the hallway reeked of it, all day, over 10 hours! Plus, people would smoke pot and cigarettes right by the side entrances/exits, so one had no choice but to breathe it in. I did stay in two different hotels last summer in Co. Spings and did not have this issue. Also, I called the front desk because we didn’t receive a scheduled housekeeping and we were out of TP. The front desk person literally hung up on me - answered the call, didn’t saying anything and hung up the phone. Also, while the room was clean and housekeeping (when we got it) was excellent. There was a weird change in floor level in our room, and I repeatedly stubbed my toes on it. I would not choose this hotel again, but NOT because of the hotel or staff but because of the other guests. "

Grand Vista Hotel

"Room was very clean. Shower is not tall people friendly. My husband is 6'0", he couldn't stand under the shower without bending backwards. Pillows are the size of couch throw pillows. Tried to go to the bar, ignored by the staff for at least 25 minutes, even when my husband tried to speak to the server directly. Breakfast was basic, slow to refill items. Appears the property is severely understaffed. Ending on a positive note, SYLVIA at the front desk was AMAZING!! SHE GETS 5 STARS!✨️🫶✨️ We probably will not stay there again."

Hyatt Place Peña Station/Denver Airport
6/10 Okay
"Upon check-in we learned we would have to pay for parking -- and the amount was about twice the going rate for satellite parking at the Denver Airport. I wasn't pleased, but that's on me for not catching it when I made the reservation. Still, the woman checking us in was not at all pleasant about it, just annoyed with me.
Strike 1.
Then we learned that breakfast starts at 5:30 a.m. We had to leave for the airport the next morning at 4:45 a.m. to catch our flight. We asked about getting a grab-and-go bag to take with us, but were told they weren't available. It seems like an airport hotel should have that for its guests. Early-morning flights are very common.
Strike 2.
The next morning, as we were leaving, the lady at the front desk was handing out to-go bags to flight crews checking out. Soooo, grab-and-go meals are available to flight crews but not guests?
Strike 3.
I expect more from Hyatt than this."

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk
10/10 Excellent
"We stayed here for 4 nights for our honeymoon. We don’t gamble and mostly came for the spa and hotel. The food was AMAZING, especially at the Timberline Grill. We got a 50 minute couples massage and it was a weird but wonderful experience. They gave us complimentary mimosas and espresso that was heavenly. The reason I say it was weird is that they had a man massage me and a woman massage my husband. Pretty awkward but neither of us get professional massages often at all. I’ve only had one before and it was my husbands first time ever getting a massage. Quite the experience! The hotel rooms don’t come with a microwave but they’re available at request. They’ll charge you $8 for the microwave for the duration of your stay. Worth it though so I could heat up my $85 steak lol. The in-room dining was amazing from the Fireside restaurant. The omelettes are amazing and so are the breakfast potatoes. Especially with hot sauce. We also walked down to the Monarch Chophouse and spent $300 on dinner. HOWEVER, it was THE BEST most decidant meal I have had in all my 25 years on this earth. I would recommend that place for anyone. They took my gluten allergy very seriously and even brought GF bread to us. An absolutely amazing experience."
