"Heating in the initial room was not able to be turned on. No equivalent room was available. I was told I would have to pay for an upgrade or stay in a freezing cold room. Finally, 2 hours later, I was advised I would be moved to another room at no additional cost. This should have been athe immediate and unquestioning solution. Very disappointing. "Hotel is directly opposite where you check in, which is The George pub. No staff being readily available in the building was a little inconvenient as we had a few confusing moments with the room temperature and couldn’t change it. Also, tv remote was broken so was difficult to navigate using it, but having no main reception in the building meant you couldn’t just pop and get a replacement! But it was very clean, large wet room and not too much trouble to navigate once inside. Would stay again,...

"The room was clean and had drinks in fridge and biscoff biscuits alongside tea,coffee etc Beds were comfortable and had good nights rest. Shower was good and water hot. A lovely nights sleep. There was traffic noise but didn’t affect our sleep and we slept soundly.I would stay again. "

"Quirky and incredibly well designed hotel! It can’t be easy remodeling a +500 year old hotel. Location was perfect! Downtown Colchester, walkable to shops and restaurants. "£7 + for a pint of bitter. £40 + for steak and chips. Sleep here but eat elsewhere. I declined breakfast when told it was £30 regardless of how much you eat, I only have a boiled egg and toast in the morning."
