"The hotel is clean, with pleasant reception staff and the room featured a bath tub. There are large windows overlooking rooftops and good blackout curtains, but the decor and carpets are dated. Telephone in the room was out of order and there was no shower gel in the dispenser in the bathroom. The location directly across the street from a bus stop was very handy, so was the location of a news agent just next door when I had emergency need for a new SIM card. I really regretted not having time...

"The staff was exceptional. We arrived early before our room was ready and the staff took care of our luggage and directed us to a delightful afternoon tea while we waited. We blew an electrical breaker trying to use an American hairdryer and they promptly got the electricity fixed. They were very flexible with dinner reservations, working around our daytime activities."

"It was really hamming up its Scottishness. Fake suits of armour, shields on the wall, animal skulls everywhere. Just wasn’t classy. The food was ok. They had tried with the vegan option - gnocchi with fried mushrooms - but could have done with some veg and a sauce. They’d run out of Pinot Grigio Blush. However the only real complaint was the price over £300 for a night, and it really wasn’t worth that. The bathroom was much lower quality than I’d expect for that price. Chipped laminate bath...

"I loved my stay at the Brae. It was the perfect place to get over jet lag as I embarked on a one-month vacation of the U.K. It’s a couple of miles outside of town, and the bus to downtown stops right in front of the house, which was perfect. Very comfortable for sleeping. Having a bath tub to soak in after a day full of walking was heaven. Graeme was an extremely welcoming and informative host. "Jimmy was very helpful and attentive, even welcoming me personally on check-in at about 10 p.m. (I thought I would have to do a self check-in after 7 p.m., which would have been fine, but he came to the door instead.) The breakfasts were excellent and the room was clean and comfortable."
