"I’ll start by saying that Banyan Tree Mayakoba was obviously stunning as the pictures suggest. The property is immaculate and we were so impressed with how well taken care of it is. Given the cost and the rating of the hotel, I definitely expected near perfection. Our first couple of days at the hotel were a miss for us. On arrival around 2 PM with a baby, our room wasnt ready. No biggy but we were directed to the lobby area to buy ourselves a drink while we waited for the room. It took the “wow” away from tne arrival. There isnt much of a welcome experience like we’ve had at other luxury hotels. If there is one thing at the resort I think was excessive, it was the price of alcohol. Like we’re talking regular drinks that are $40 CAD. On arrival no mention was made about potential room upgrade which is part of travel status. We don’t always get it, but they should acknowledge. They also didn’t give the best overview of the resort so we got room service and stayed in, feeling like we needed to take a golf cart to get anywhere. The first breakfast food experience was also lacking at the buffet. Luckily, after a couple days, we met Karla, the Guest Experience Manager and Juan (?) the chef and our trip started to turn around. The food never missed after that. So we happily paid the price for the food. Breakfast at Sands daily was unreal and Jazmin was amazing with our daughter. We learned to ride the bikes instead of waiting for carts and it changed our experience."

"This was our second time here. We could not wait to go back because we wanted to stay in building 3 in a swim out since they go right into the main pool with the swim up bar. We sent several requests asking for building 3. Always received a response saying they have that in our notes. I know you can not always guarantee the building you request. However, the ENTIRE building 3 was closed for our entire stay. An email to let us know that we could not have our request would have been nice. It is a shame because we brought other people with us who were looking forward to these swim up rooms. We liked the food and the entertainment staff were amazing. Because of lack of communication, we most likely will not be back."

"We had a great experience here, the staff treated us like family, everything was so clean, the food was amazing, activities were all so much fun and we loved Gretel and Melissa, they were awesome and it was so hard to say goodbye to everyone, there was a particular waiter named Salmone who was exceptional. All the staff seemed to love their job and were so welcoming! Our room was always cleaned in the morning and while we were out to dinner we would come back to our room to our bed sheets folded down, night lights on and chocolate on our best stand we hope to be back some day. We also did a couples massage at the spa that was amazing and got to experience the hydrotherapy which was also so cool and relaxing!"
