"If you choose resorts based on the beach experience, I won’t recommend Dreams Rivera Cancún. The resort was very well maintained, unfortunately, the seaweed situation was not well managed. We paid extra for the Preferred Club which put us right on the edge of the property which was next to a vacant property where the seaweed was permitted to build up and build up. They were using tractors and dump trucks to pull the seaweed out the week we were there and the smell was like death. We saw at least three dump truck loads of seaweed loaded up and it barely made a dent in the remaining seaweed. From our balcony, it was rancid smelling. The beach was even worse smelling, but it was near impossible to get a beach chair anyway. People would start saving chairs at 7 am, then not show up until 11 am or noon to actually use the chairs. If Dreams had the seaweed situation under better control, as well as the beach chair situation, this would have been a 5/5 review because the food, bars, staff, resort, rooms, entertainment, etc. were all on par with previous stays at Dreams."

They even called the room to check in on us and remind us of the available options for room service, from different pillows to 24h service for food or drinks."

"Things that were great: -the size of our junior swim-out room and the mini pool -the waterslides -the food -the greenery on the resort ground -the gym -Filippe serving us at the buffet for dinner service (best server at the resort!) -the entertainment -the cleanliness of the rooms -the hot tub Things that weren’t great: -the (rentable for a price) cabanas at the big pool blocking the view of the pool -the fact that the big pool was unheated (there were more people in the hot tub than in the pool) -the staff trying to sell you things every time you leave your room -the beach (SO much seaweed) -the tractor running on the beach trying to get rid of the seaweed -the hard beds All in all, we had a good time. I understand the resort makes money off the cabanas but they’re all front row around the pool so they block the view for hundreds of people and they’re expensive to rent. I also understand the need for the tractor to work on the seaweed (sargassum) situation but we were hoping for Caribbean beaches. We should have spent less and gone to Puerto Vallarta!"

The staff, especially Jose (Guest services), Antonio and Luis at the Casa del Mar restaurant, Juan at the front desk, were extremely helpful and took good care of us. The bowling alley and the silent disco were the highlights of our stay. The only downside is that the beach is full of brown seaweed. "
