Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya - Adults Only - All Inclusive

10/10 Excellent

"Food was great for an all inclusive. Better quality booze in the preferred lounge, but none of the bars were serving anything terrible. Staff was incredible, specifically the bartender at the preferred club, servers by the main pool, the entertainment guy Anthony, and our concierge Ricardo. The hotel plans excursions for you, but found significantly better prices if you book online. Snorkeling with turtles was sick, but you’re overpaying for a guide, bring snorkeling gear and you can do it all day for free (was definitely best excursion we did). Tulum ruins were mid, but cenotes were super cool. The steakhouse and mexican place were the best dinners i had, and chicken quesadillas by the pool were awesome. Very nice quiet jungle vibe as you walk around the property (easy to get lost) and there are a ton of iguanas. Resort is super safe and medical responses are prompt. Room next to ours had a medical emergency and the site doctor arrived in ~5 mins with real paramedics arriving within 10 mins. Crowd was younger than expected based on other reviews. Was like 50/50 20-30s couples / 40s-70s couples."

"Overall we loved the resort and would definitely come back! The resort food was fairly good, but we’d recommend people travel the area and find good local food. Book any excursions on your own & get your own taxi, if you do through the resort you’ll be paying a lot more. The one feedback we have is that the whole presentation they try to get you to go do is not worth it, don’t do it. They claim is 90 minutes of your time, was actually closer to 2.5 hours. The whole time consists of Hayat business people trying to get you to purchase their vacation plans. I was about ready to walk out after 4 different men tried to get us to make this thousand dollar purchase after we had consistently said no. We’d recommend not getting swayed to go to this breakfast, use your time as YOUR time & don’t let Hayat business men bully you for hours."

"This property is centrally located in Tulum so if you’re planning any excursions everything is only 10-15 minutes away. The property itself was under renovation during our visit so there were rolling closures in restaurants and main building. A little annoying but we managed. Glad to see there were renovating as it was in dire need. It’s a dated property but looking past that the staff helped make it great. The live music and shows in the evening were also above average. We spent most of our time on the beach but unfortunately the sea grass was so abundant it made swimming or simply enjoying the sight of the water troubling. The “eco-friendly “ hotels have not figured this out yet and is not limited to this hotel. Special shout out to the VIP concierge team specifically, Gaysler, Reyes, Laura, Daniel and Luisa. Also a shout out to the head chef Efraim who prepared several special meals for us. This team went well above and beyond during an otherwise average stay making it great."

"We booked 2 rooms for our family, rooms were spacious, had all the necessities. Food was really good, a little bummed we couldn’t eat at the restaurants that required reservations as there weren’t any available. Overall we had a great time."
